University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine: An Overview
The University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine was formally built in January 1975 when it subsumed the School of Clinical Research & Postgraduate Teaching which had been in existence since 1946. The first entry of 50 Clinical Students took place in October 1976. For the last few years, and up to & including 2016 entries, the yearly intake to the Standard Clinical Course was nearly 160 candidates.
From September 2017, all preclinical candidates will stay in the College for the clinical component of the course. It will increase the yearly intake to nearly 260 candidates. Around 10 of those candidates are offered places on the MB Ph.D. program plus 20 candidates have been given admission to the Cambridge Graduate-entry Course (CGC).
The MB/Ph.D. Course, offered by the University, leads to the MB, B. Chir & Ph.D. degrees & is designed for all those medical students who are interested in academic or research careers. The course enables them to integrate a 3-year period of research with their clinical education.
