Age requirements

  • The candidates must be at least 18 years old to apply for this recruitment. 
  • There is no upper age limit to apply for this recruitment
  • One should keep in mind that the usual retirement age for police officers & sergeants is 60.
  • Also, new constable recruits are needed to undertake a 2-year probationary period.

Nationality requirements

  • You must be a British citizen, Or
  • You must be an EC/Commonwealth citizen/EEA national, Or
  • A Foreign national having no restrictions on your stay in the UK.  Candidates who have lived abroad may be needed to have resided in the UK for 3 years.

Criminal record

Health

You can only register to one force at a time.  Your application would not be accepted if you’ve previously registered unsuccessfully to a police force that needs candidates to undertake the Police SEARCH within the past 6 months.

Post-Application Procedure (What happens after applying?)

After you’ve sent in your application form in order to be a police officer a 3-step process starts.

Step 1

Having received your application form, the force that you have registered to will check your eligibility & mark your responses to competency questions. If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to attend an assessment center.

Step 2

If you qualify the assessment center, you’ll then have to take a fitness test.

Step 3

Next, your references will be tested, you’ll undergo background, medical, security, and eyesight checks. Some forces may decide to run additional assessment stages, like 2nd Interview.
